Hamilton County Jail Roster
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office publishes a current-inmate roster for people in county custody. The official Lookup Current Inmates page points users to the roster and warns that public data changes often. That warning is not boilerplate. A release, transfer, court order, or new booking event can change the record after a user searches.
The roster covers Hamilton County Jail custody, not all criminal records. Federal inmates, sentenced state-prison inmates, immigration custody, and people held in other counties may require other sources. For a criminal case outcome, use MyCase or the Clerk. For a filed charge path after booking, the related Hamilton County arrest records and court charges page gives court-charge context.
The county's current-inmate lookup source is one of the assigned inmate images.
That source is the official local entry point before using statewide custody or prison tools.
Use Hamilton County Inmate Search
The roster itself is hosted at the secure county jail search. It lets users search by name or booking-related identifiers, or scan the listed names. Results can be filtered by custody status, booking dates, and housing facility. The county also posts a direct warning that it does not accept crypto for bond, which is a useful fraud signal for anyone contacted after a booking.
- Open the Hamilton County current-inmate roster.
- Enter a name, subject number, booking number, custody status, date range, or housing facility when known.
- Review the result table for photo, name, subject number, scheduled release date, and gender.
- Select a matching name to view the inmate detail page, if a detail page is available.
- Use the listed docket number or court date to find the public court case in MyCase when case context is needed.
The roster source assigned to this page shows the live search interface.
The search filters are useful, but they should be read with the county's accuracy warning because jail records are active records.
Hamilton County Inmate Search Fields
The Hamilton County jail roster has a richer search panel than a simple name list. These fields come from the captured roster interface and should be used before assuming a person is not in custody. A spelling variant, recent booking, or transfer can affect results.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | Text | No | Search by inmate name; the roster also lists names alphabetically. |
| Subject Number | Text | No | Numeric identifier assigned by the jail system. |
| Booking Number | Text | No | Identifier for a specific booking event. |
| In Custody | Checkbox or dropdown | No | Filters by custody status when available. |
| Booking From Date | Date | No | Start date for booking range filtering. |
| Booking To Date | Date | No | End date for booking range filtering. |
| Housing Facility | Dropdown | No | Includes Hamilton County Jail and inmates TBO'd to other agencies. |
| Search / Clear | Buttons | n/a | Search submits filters; Clear resets the roster filters. |
Note: A blank result does not prove no custody history exists; it may mean the person is released, transferred, or outside the roster scope.

This source connects the custody search to the physical jail, not just to an online roster screen.
Booking in Hamilton County Jail
Booking creates the jail record. A person may be booked after an arrest, a warrant service, a court remand, or another custody event. The jail profile may then show the booking number, booking date, prisoner type, bond, charges, court dates, and arresting agency. Those fields help connect custody to a public court case, but they do not prove final guilt or final disposition.
The jail page says most prisoners stay a short period, but some remain from arrest through trial to sentencing, and some sentenced people may stay several months while waiting for space at a state institution. Average daily inmate population is listed as 384. Captain Dustin Castor is named as jail contact in the research.
Hamilton County Inmate Visitation
Hamilton County uses ViaPath/GettingOut for remote video visitation scheduling. Visits are appointment only, may be scheduled up to one week in advance, and generally should be scheduled 24 hours ahead. The county says scheduling must be by website or kiosk only unless the Jail Commander or designee pre-approves telephone scheduling. Visitors 18 or older need their own scheduled visit. Each inmate is permitted one visitor per session, except minors who must be with an adult.
| Visit type | Schedule / length | Scheduling method | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remote video for general population | 7 a.m.-11 a.m. and 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m.; 30 minutes | ViaPath / GettingOut website or kiosk | Visits start on the hour and half hour. |
| Jail posted visiting hours | Monday-Friday 8:30-10 a.m.; 1:30-4:30 p.m.; 7:30-10 p.m. | Contact jail, website, or kiosk | Listed on jail and visitation contact blocks. |
| Attorney / approved professionals | 30 minutes unless longer approved | Appointment only, 24 hours in advance | Notify staff if more than one person will attend. |
The official Hamilton County visitation page is assigned to this inmate page.
The visitation rules are detailed because access can be denied for policy violations, restricted inmate status, disruptive conduct, or scheduling errors.
Contact Hamilton County Inmates
Hamilton County lists three main contact paths: scheduled visit, collect call initiated by the inmate, and U.S. mail. Jail staff cannot pass messages except emergencies, and non-emergency messages go to the Chaplain. To block collect calls from the facility, contact jail staff at 317-776-9800.
Personal mail is processed through a scanning service. Mail must include the full facility name and state without abbreviations, the full inmate name and identifier, and the sender's full name and physical address. The format listed in the research is:
Hamilton County Jail, IN
Inmate Name, Inmate Identifier
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131
Personal mail is limited to letters, pictures, and drawings. No payments by mail are accepted. Stickers, glitter, pornographic photos, and Polaroids are not allowed. Newspapers and magazines must come directly from publishers. Delivery issues may be sent to info@TextBehind.com.
Commissary and Inmate Funds
Hamilton County deposits can be made online through GettingOut or at the kiosk in the jail lobby with cash or credit cards. The inmate prisoner identification number is required. Money is no longer accepted at the lobby window, and cash or money orders are no longer accepted through the mail. Money received during book-in is credited to the inmate's commissary account.
The jail payment information source assigned to this page supports the inmate-funds details.
Commissary timing is local: inmates order on Sundays, and orders are delivered on Saturday.
Important: Hamilton County warns that it does not accept cryptocurrency for bond; crypto bond demands are a common scam.
State and Custody Fallbacks
The Hamilton County jail has full-time medical staff on site 24 hours a day. People with medical needs or special concerns should contact medical staff at least 48 hours before a stay. Inmates serving less than 31 days must supply their own medications. The jail is non-smoking. Medical co-pays listed in the research include doctor or nurse, dentist, monthly refills, and new prescription charges.
If the Hamilton County inmate roster does not show the person, use the correct outside custody source. The Indiana Department of Correction offender information page is for sentenced state-prison offenders, not the county jail roster. The failed manifest row for Indiana VINELink remains a relevant custody-notification fallback source, but no local image is added because the manifest capture failed. The Sheriff's Office also links sex offender search resources, which are separate from current jail custody.
No official Hamilton County Sheriff's Office app was confirmed for inmate or warrant lookup. Do not rely on an app-only claim for local custody data.
